Security suggestions for users

Below are some suggestions for ways users of the Online Parish Returns System (OPRS) can keep their personal data safe.

Statements/tips for data security

  • Do not share your password/passphrase with anybody or allow others to use your account. Remember, do not save your login details when using a shared computer.

  • Do not write down or store your password electronically in unencrypted clear text (such as saving passwords in a Word/Excel document or Notepad).

  • Users are responsible for the use of their account; you must not allow anyone else to use your account, and you must not use someone else's account.

  • Use strong, unique passwords for every account.

  • You must apply strong passwords to all systems and devices, which must comply with the password policy as laid out on the Online Parish Returns System. (At least 8 characters in length and contain at least one character from three of the following character sets: uppercase, lowercase, number, and symbol).

  • You should not use or re-use your Church of England's Online Parish Returns System password for any other logon account or purpose.

  • Ensure you have up-to-date antivirus/malware software installed on your computer/laptop.

  • Use a secure wi-fi connection, when connecting to the internet and try to avoid using public Wi-Fi where possible.

  • Lock your device when unattended.

  • Be vigilant against phishing emails and don’t click on suspicious links.
